FAQ's

Help! I passed out the vocabulary quiz and the entire class snickered. What did I do wrong?
You may need to change the quiz title. We added a "random quiz name function" and, I have to admit, we were a little loopy by that point in the evening.

Why don't the Greek and/or Hebrew words display correctly?
You may need to download the appropriate font. [Installation instructions: Windows / Macintosh]

Who created this web application?
It was a joint effort by Tony and Rose Pyles. Tony typed in the databases, relying heavily upon the works of Warren Trenchard and Miles Van Pelt. Rose is responsible for the programming aspect of this application. Feel free to direct correspondence to her regarding any errors that occur. Tony will gladly field questions and make any necessary corrections to the database. Contact information will be included below.
Daniel Ellingburg and Josh Walker have also been very helpful in providing feedback during the testing process. (Thank you to both!) Feel free to join their illustrious ranks.

What books are being referenced when I select a chapter range?

How can I donate towards or fund this project?
We're so glad you asked!! Just hand a blank check to . . . we're kidding.

I asked for 20 questions and it generated far more. What happened?
Make sure the "Include All Words Which Meet the Criteria Above" box is NOT checked. That function overrides the designated number of questions and includes ALL (yes, all) the words that meet your other criteria.

I'm a visual person. I love opening owner's manuals and looking at product diagrams. Do you have anything like that?
Sure, why not? "Our Product Diagrams".     It may be worth noting that these diagrams were made prior to the latest updates to this quiz generator. Nevertheless, they provide a great deal of useful information.

Which fields are absolutely necessary?
It depends on what you want. If you aren't concerned with frequency than ignore those field. The same can be said for the chapter range (in fact several words in our database aren't in any chapter). By default, the number of questions generated is 20. If you're satisfied with that, you can leave that alone too. In other words, a quiz will be generated even if you don't exercise any of your options. If you have something more specific and less "anything goes!" that you'd like to test for, we recommend making use of the options we've provided.

I need to weight the quiz by Chapter (or by Frequency). How?
If you need a certain number of words from a particular range of chapters (say Chapter 4 to Chapter 5) and the rest from Chapter 6 and beyond then click on "Advanced Chapter Options." If you need a set number of words to only be drawn from one chapter's vocabulary list (rather than from a range of chapters), just set the "start" and "end" chapter to reflect the chapter you need. "Advanced Frequency Options" allows users the same flexibility with frequency ranges. We do not, however, recommend setting the minimum and maximum frequencies equivalent to each other. It is unlikely that you will be able to generate an acceptable number of quiz questions that way.

Update Info
Last updated on September 13, 2009:   Fixed "duplicates" bug. (Previously duplicates were occasionally being generated when "Include earlier vocabulary as necessary to generate the proper number of questions" was selected.)   A spelling error in the Greek database was corrected. Additionally, the databases were converted from tab delimited to comma separated value files with the commas included in the definitions replaced with html (',') equivalents.

I've read the FAQ's and they didn't help at all! How do I contact you?
RTS Jackson Students, Professors, etc.: Tony is the teaching assistant for Dr. Guy Waters. That being the case, it is quite likely that you can find Tony in the Biblical Studies building. He shares an office with Josh Walker, Matthew Elliott, Quinn Hill and Jonathan Kiel. If the questions are related to programming bugs, Tony will pass along the information.

08/31/09 Note: We need help building up our FAQ's page (so that it will actually be helpful). Please send us your questions or alert us to glitches in the program. In the latter case, please provide as many details as possible (what specific parameters didn't work, what was the result, etc.)
